NVF at Thomas Edison High School’s Activity Fair
Our work with Edison High School has been ongoing for three years now. We have served the youth there with our Intro to Programming and Web Design courses via the Beacons After School Program. This year we were invited to the school’s annual Activity Fair. The fair is held for students so they can be exposed to the different programs the school provides. There are over 25 programs for students to learn more about including our own NVF program, as well as others such as AVID, Student Leadership, Math Team, Debate, and many more.
At the NVF booth, we presented informational sessions about our tech education (coding) programs and the different advancement opportunities we grant students in addition to our after-school courses. There was high interest from students in our programs. Many of them shared that they are interested in tech due to current advancements and the impact of tech on their daily lives. We believe that every student should have access to tech education and that computer science is foundational for all students. Therefore, NVF strives to be present at as many middle and high schools and provide these opportunities to the youth, specifically disadvantaged youth.
Edison High did an amazing job of executing this year’s Activity Fair. The school’s program coordinators understand the importance of providing additional programs for students outside of their daily courses. This is what increases student potential and creates pathways to success. We are glad to partner with Edison and work on creating more opportunities for all our students.
