NVF Student Internships
As we send off our interns into the school year, we are grateful to have had their contributions to our organization this summer. Mohamed Abdi, our Operations Developer Intern will be an incoming freshman at Augsburg University. Soodal Adow our Marketing Intern will be a second-year student at St. Paul College. Prior to the internships, both interns completed our NVF Computer Programming Course then were placed with us to fulfill their summer internships. I asked the interns about their experiences with us and what their career plans are, and this is what they had to share.
Hello, I’m Mohamed Abdi and this summer I was an Ops Dev Intern at NVF. My favorite project was assisting with the upcoming software development bootcamp. I was helping with recruitment and bootcamp curriculum analysis and testing. It was nice to finally use some of the software skills I picked up on in the NVF course and apply it to my work. I gained a lot of real-world experience and gained skills that I will be able to apply to my college/ professional life such as communication, data analysis, and problem solving.
New Vision has great company culture, the expectations of the internship were very clear and I received a lot of support from my manager and other staff. I did a lot of professional development. I learned more about how to conduct myself in a professional manner and connect with others. It was a good experience being a part of the curriculum testing, seeing that my input mattered and helping to perfect the curriculum was very rewarding.
I will be attending my freshman year at Augsburg University this fall. I plan on working towards my computer science degree. I want to become a software engineer. I’ve been interested in this since I was a kid. Computers have always been a part of my life and I spend a great deal of time on them.
Hi, my name is Soodal. Before this internship I was attending NVF’s Intro to Software Development class. I held the Marketing Intern role at NVF this summer and it was a great experience for me. The role gave me the platform to use my creativity, and this allowed me to challenge myself when creating content. I helped my manager develop marketing campaigns and communications material. I also got a better understanding of the non-profit marketing industry and networking with other professionals.
I am returning to St Paul College this fall as a sophomore and will be pursuing my Management Information Systems degree. My career goals are to either be a Software Engineer or Data Analyst and to work for a fortune 500 company.
