Interns share their NVF Summer Internship Experiences
Our summer internships have come to an end, and we are honored to have hosted our interns this summer to get real world experience to apply to the start of their own future careers. We'd like to recognize Muhsin Mohamed and Violet Xiong for the great work they've accomplished in their roles this summer. Muhsin and Violet were both interning for the Marketing & Communications team, and they completed various work including organizational communication efforts, helped manage our social media platforms, and assisted in planning out marketing initiatives. Muhsin is starting his senior year at Stillwater High School and once he graduates, he plans to study Software Engineering. Violet is also beginning her senior year at Highland Park Senior High School and plans to study the Marketing and Communications major.
Here's what they had to say about their internship experience in their own words:
Hi, I'm Violet and throughout this summer I have had the opportunity to experience my first internship which started June 20th until August 18th of this year. I wanted to go into marketing. Throughout this internship I got to experience creating the branding of my company and learning and finding better ways to have a company grow. For example, we learned that creating Instagram reels grew our page and brought more traction to our posts. But we also had to draw back and had to find more creative ways to implement our brand in these posts and communications by asking questions such as, “How can we show our company's purpose in this post or communication?”, “What will cause viewers and readers to connect to or with our company?”, “How can we show our support for minorities?”.
In this role, I had to be able to think quickly and creatively. This gave me a good look at how my job would be if I were to pursue a career in marketing, because this is definitely something I am considering. This opportunity gave me a deeper look into something I want to do in the future.
Everyone overall was so encouraging, Muna and Hodan were people I felt I could go to if I had any questions or needed any advice. I loved being able to meet everyone as well as really connecting with the youth in NVF programs. They are the future, and being able to be a mentor them was really nice. It gave me a glimpse of why New Vision has the mission they do, to encourage students like them to really change a part of their world. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and if I had the chance I would do it again.
Hello my name is Muhsin. Today marks my last day at New Vision for now, but hopefully not for long. This was my first ever internship, and I’m glad to say that it was a very positive one. The experience I learned- from working with co-workers to scheduling my time- was invaluable. It’s served its purpose as a training for the real world and has given me the tools that I can take with me into any future job. Along with the professional experience I have gained from this internship, I have grown a lot as a person, which I will be forever grateful for.
I cannot think of many negatives if any at all really. I think the biggest positive about the program was the fact that we were encouraged to keep learning every day. Also, being able to work from home really helped with my personal scheduling this summer, and I found it very convenient.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
Sincerely,
Muhsin
